The Importance of Support: How Does Yours Rate?

I gave my aunt this turkey and his head snapped off on the plane.  I prefer him this way.

Well, I promised you a post bright and early Saturday morning (and it's midnight now, so...), so here it is.  Like most people, I went home to see my family for the holidays.  While I was there, I realized something I had taken for granted: I really need them.  When I left home, I told myself I was better off, because the distance would be a great motivator.  For a while, it was, but I think I underestimated how hard it was going to be.

Now, you may be wondering, what in the world this has to do with writing, right?  It goes back to what we were talking about a while back: the importance of a good support system.  While most writers (in my experience) are introverts and like to keep to themselves, this does not exclude them from creating and maintaining emotional connections with the outside world.  We need it.  We crave it.  We all want to belong--somewhere, anywhere.

Think about your own support system.  Does it come from family, friends, other writers, or a combination of all three?  How does it affect your writing?
