The Muse, Also Known As Inspiration

Thank you, Macey Punches, for sharing this beautiful artwork with us!

Inspiration can come from anywhere.  It is in the music we listen to; the stores we shop in; the people we meet.  I know that, for many of my clients, even for myself, they find my best ideas when they are doing something that has absolutely nothing to do with writing.  Seems strange, doesn't it?

Why does it come to us when we are least expecting it?  The answer is a lot more simple than you might think.  Ideas, like that ever-flighty Muse, can be a little skittish.  They are not going to share themselves with someone who is close-minded.  If you reject new ideas, then don't be surprised if the Muse moves on to more willing company.  It is why I always encourage clients to keep a notebook and a pen handy: you have no idea when inspiration will strike, and, trust me, you won't remember it later.

So, grab a box of crayons, colored pencils, or markers and get to coloring.  It'll help you free your mind and you'll forget about your worries.
